Weekend Warrior

I'm a Weekend Warrior

It's a a beautiful weekend and I'm at work... Like most of the people from work. I've been wondering why it's not so much of an issue for them to go to work on weekends. It seems like they're enjoying their time meeting co-workers on Saturdays and spending lunches together... But don't we do this five times a day.

While at work, I imagined what I could be doing instead:

- THE BEACH - I could be walking on the shore, feeling the pebbles between my toes, enjoying the sun that burns my skin to a golden tan, eating some tender juicy hotdogs on a stick (or a bun filled with spicy chorizo), getting a massage from the elderly women under a coconut tree or sipping a tall glass of ice cold perfectly ripe mango shake while enjoying the cold whispers of the sea breeze

- PAMPANGA - I could be spending time with my family in the house where I grew up, in San Fernando, the city where life revolves around food...I could be making a lunch feast of Shrimp and Pomelo Salad with citrus dressing to start, Roasted Porkloin with Mango-Pineapple sauce with roasted garlic mashed potatoes on the side for the main course, and finish it up with Mocha Tort Sansrival (the native sansrival with a touch of mocha) courtesy of a very good family friend.

- LANGUAGES - I could be taking an intensive weekend program on Spanish, practicing my reading and writing with the lovely poems of Pablo Neruda on IL Postino. I'd like to share one of my favorites:

Poema XV

Pablo Neruda

- COMMUNITY - I could be doing some volunteer work for the community, teaching little kids how to read, write or draw; or spending time with the elderly in homes for the aged... this weekend, i could have done something really meaningful

- COOKING CLASSES - I could be at the culinary studio of CCA in Katpunan or Silvia Reynoso-Gala or Henny Sison learning new techniques from the experts like how to make a crackless New York Cheesecake (maybe my friend Pet can teach me how, he made a really good one for Christmas), or how to make fondant icing and sugar flowers, or how to make the most sinfully delicious flourless chocolate cake

- FOOD TOUR - I could be taking a little tour of Old Manila or Binondo and make a little Lonely Planet out of it. I'll take an FX ride from Buendia LRT then get off in Divisoria. Shop on the best bargains, then I can be like Anthony Bourdaine and sample the exotic Chinese food in the area.

- LOUNGING - or I could simply be lounging in my studio apartment, listening to the refreshing music of Lisa Ono, catching up on my reading list, taking a really long bath with a stress relieving rainbow body scrub (Tips, the one you brought from Rustan's is the best!). Maybe I can even have some aroma thereapy candles.

There's so much to do on weekends! Why am I slaving it up in this cube?

Well, for a number of reasons... experience for one, security is another. I seem to have found the challenging experience I've been looking for as well as the comfort zone that I needed. But at this point, it seems like it's time to let go, to get out of my comfort zone and explore other challenges. One that I really want to do, one that I would do, not because it's comfortable but because it's something I really have passions for.

But when does one say, I've had enough. When does one know, it's time to move on? How does one know, one CAN move on? Should one just take a plunge?

Blogger101

I'm so excited this is my first Blog! Welcome to the Web Civilization, Namee. I'm still trying to figure this thing out.

This is my Blogger 101 page. Maybe later I can add some pictures and links and music. For now, I just want to write. Write what? Just random experimental posts. Nothing structured.

Mekeni-mekeni means Come here! come here! in my native Capampangan language. I named it as such to invite my friends and soon to be friends or blog readers to come explore my world.

So? Mekeni-mekeni!
